If you’ve been searching for Acqua Di Giò Profumo lately and getting nowhere, you’re not imagining things. The fragrance has quietly disappeared from Armani’s main catalog, yet some retailers still show it as available. That contradiction has left a lot of loyal wearers confused about what’s actually going on.

This article covers whether Profumo is truly discontinued, what led to it, why you might still see it listed in stores, what the current replacements look like, and what you should do if Profumo is part of your regular rotation.

Acqua Di Giò Profumo Is Discontinued — Here’s the Confirmation

The short answer is yes — Profumo is discontinued. This is not a rumor or a regional supply issue.

Armani Beauty USA’s official product page for Profumo now states: “We regret to inform you that this product has been discontinued.” That’s a direct quote from Armani’s own website, not a third-party interpretation.

A customer service email cited by Manscipated.com goes further, confirming that Profumo “has been discontinued and is no longer being manufactured” — and recommends Acqua Di Giò Eau de Parfum as a replacement.

There’s also an earlier layer of confusion worth clearing up. Between roughly 2020 and 2022, some Armani customer service replies — particularly from European contacts — described “delivery bottlenecks” and “high international demand,” suggesting the scent was simply hard to get, not gone. Those replies were accurate at the time, but they no longer reflect the current situation. Production has since stopped entirely.

What you see on retailer shelves today is leftover inventory. No new bottles are being made.

What Profumo Was and Why Its Discontinuation Matters

Acqua Di Giò Profumo launched in 2015 as a darker, more intense flanker to the original 1996 Acqua Di Giò EDT. The original is a fresh, clean aquatic — light enough for everyday wear. Profumo took that same DNA and pushed it somewhere different.

Its opening had the familiar citrus and sea breeze quality, but the dry-down brought in patchouli and incense, giving it a smoky, formal depth. That made it better suited for evenings than the original, while still keeping the aquatic character that fans of the line loved.

That combination was genuinely unusual. It sat between a pure oriental and a standard aquatic — fresher than the former, darker than the latter. No other fragrance in the Acqua Di Giò lineup did exactly what Profumo did, which is a big reason fans are frustrated. It wasn’t just another flanker. It filled a real gap in the line.

Production ran from 2015 through approximately 2023 to 2024, when it was fully phased out. In 2024, Armani launched Acqua Di Giò Parfum — a new, more intense option for the line, widely viewed as the successor to Profumo’s role in the catalog.

Why Armani Likely Phased It Out

Armani has not released a detailed public explanation for why Profumo was discontinued. What follows is based on industry patterns and informed commentary — not official statements from the brand.

    Line Consolidation

Brands with multiple flankers regularly trim their catalogs. When you have Profumo, Profondo, an Eau de Parfum, and now a Parfum all in the same line, things start to overlap. Removing an older product simplifies the shelf, makes it easier to market to new customers, and focuses attention on whatever is newest.

    Rising Production Costs

A German fragrance reviewer noted rising raw material and production costs as a contributing factor. This has been a consistent industry-wide trend, especially since 2020. Lower-volume flankers are the first to go when margins tighten, because the economics simply don’t justify continued production.

The 2024 Parfum Launch Signals a Shift

The timing matters. Acqua Di Giò Parfum launched in 2024 and was positioned as the line’s premium, intense option. It’s hard to market a new “intense” product when an older one already occupies that slot. The Parfum launch is a strong signal that Armani’s focus has moved forward, not backward.

Think of it like a discontinued sneaker model. Once production stops, the remaining pairs sell through retail. Prices rise in the secondary market. The brand moves on to the next version. That’s essentially what’s happening with Profumo.

Why You Might Still See It Listed as Available

Discontinuation doesn’t mean every bottle disappears overnight. Retailers and distributors buy inventory in advance, and they continue selling through what they have — sometimes for months, sometimes longer.

European retailers like Douglas and Notino, and some U.S. stores, have had Profumo listed even after Armani USA marked it discontinued. A person in Germany checking a retail site and seeing Profumo available is not seeing proof that it’s still in production. They’re seeing leftover stock that hasn’t sold through yet.

The presence of bottles with 2022 batch codes also doesn’t contradict a later global phase-out. Those were manufactured before production stopped and are now working their way through the supply chain.

As remaining stock shrinks, two things tend to happen: availability becomes more unpredictable, and prices go up. FragranceNet was already reported as listing Profumo at inflated prices. That pattern will likely continue.

One practical risk: as a popular discontinued fragrance becomes harder to find through normal channels, counterfeit risk increases. If you’re buying from a third-party seller at an unusual price, check batch codes and packaging carefully before committing.

    What to Buy Instead

None of the available alternatives are exact replacements. But depending on what you loved about Profumo, some options come closer than others.

    Acqua Di Giò Parfum (2024)

This is the closest thing to a spiritual successor. It’s stronger and warmer than Profumo, with an ambery and woody base rather than Profumo’s incense and patchouli. If you wore Profumo as an evening fragrance and want something in the same intensity bracket, this is the most logical starting point.

Acqua Di Giò Eau de Parfum

This is what Armani’s customer service actively recommends as a replacement. It’s more modern than the original EDT and leans into the aquatic DNA of the line. That said, it doesn’t have the incense depth that made Profumo stand out. It’s a better fit if you loved Profumo’s freshness more than its darker base.

Acqua Di Giò Profondo Eau de Parfum

Profondo goes in a different direction — deeper, more mineral and marine, without the incense quality. It’s a good option if you want something darker than the original EDT but don’t need the smoky character Profumo had.

If none of these feel right, the broader market for dark aquatics and incense-forward fragrances has grown significantly in recent years. You’re not limited to staying within the Armani line.

Should You Buy a Backup Bottle Now?

If Profumo is your go-to fragrance and you still have access to a genuine bottle at a reasonable price, buying one extra makes sense. Prices are already rising in some places, and as stock continues to thin out, the window for finding a bottle without paying a premium will close.

That said, don’t panic-buy in bulk based on speculation about prices “skyrocketing.” No one can say with certainty where the market goes. Buy what you’ll realistically use, and make sure you’re buying from a reliable source.

Is There Any Chance Profumo Comes Back?

As of now, there is no indication that Armani plans to relaunch Profumo. The more likely pattern, based on how the fragrance industry works, is that the brand will continue building out the line with new products rather than reissuing an older formula unchanged.

That doesn’t mean it’s impossible — brands occasionally revisit discontinued products, especially when fan demand is strong. But counting on a relaunch as a reason not to stock up now would be a risky bet.

    The Bottom Line

Acqua Di Giò Profumo is discontinued. Armani’s U.S. site says so directly, and customer service has confirmed that production has ended. What’s left on shelves is remaining inventory, not newly manufactured stock.

The most likely reason is a combination of strategic line simplification and the 2024 launch of Acqua Di Giò Parfum, which now fills the “intense” slot in the lineup. Rising production costs across the industry probably played a role too, though Armani hasn’t said so officially.

If you’re a loyal Profumo wearer, check current retailer prices and availability now. Look at the Parfum or Eau de Parfum as the closest in-line alternatives. And if a bottle at a fair price is still within reach, it’s reasonable to grab a backup — just buy from a trusted source and verify authenticity before you pay.
